About DWA

Disability WORKS Australia is a charity established to manage the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator (NDRC). Our role is to facilitate the provision of employment for people with a disability by providing employers with access to a single, free, effective contact point for recruiting people with disabilities. DWA had been contracted by the Commonwealth Government to provide this service in every Australian State and Territory from 1st January 2004 to 31 December 2006 . In January 2007 DWA signed a further contract for the period of January 2007 to June 2009.

The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator (NDRC) program complements the Commonwealth Government's Employer Demand and Workplace Flexibility Strategy. The Strategy aims to increase the employment of people with a disability by increasing employer awareness of the benefits of hiring job seekers with disability.

The objectives of the NDRC program are;

  • to increase the number of people with disabilities in the Australian workforce;
  • to promote the benefits of employing people with disability to employers, especially large employers, leading to the establishment of agreements from targeted employers to employ people with disability;
  • to improve awareness of employers of the schemes that are available to assist with the employment of people with disability;
  • to provide employers with a single point of contact for advice on the employment of people with disability;
  • to enhance the placements of people with disability with employers through liaison with DEN and VRS providers: and
  • to assisted targeted employers to develop and maintain systems and process for recruiting and maintaining the employment of people with disability.
